I came across an article called “Adopt Emoji Marketing for More Engagement in 2020” today and wanted to share my thoughts on it. Here is the link to the article if you want to read it yourself, it is a great read for any company who are trying to engage more effectively with their followers. https://www.martechadvisor.com/articles/content-experience/emoji-marketing-in-2020/
The article discusses the use of emojis in marketing and explains some do’s and don’ts to best engage with your audience. Some facts from the article I found interesting was that 6 billion emoticons are sent every day, emojis increase Instagram engagement rate by 48%, and the top three most popular emojis are: 😂,❤️ and 😍. It was also interesting to read about how one emoji has a different impact on the reader rather than using none or overusing them. In the example below, found in the article, one can see how the emojis are giving further meaning to the text and articulates the right intent and mood. It shows how one could be misinterpreted without the use of emojis. While the other example, the tweet by Goldman Sachs, is creating a confusion for the audience due to overuse of emojis.

The main reason as to why I was intrigued to read this article was because of an internship I recently started. I’m helping out with marketing at a real estate company and my supervisor has been suggesting I could possibly help them with social media marketing, especially on Instagram. I’m definitely going to come back to this article if I do end up getting tasked to grow their Instagram page. Knowing your target audience, researching what emojis they use, and using the right amount of emojis are all tips I found in the article that I know will come in handy for me. Hopefully they can help someone else with their marketing as well!
