Class of 2020… Well, it’s safe to say my senior year did not exactly turn out the way I was hoping. I am experiencing a lot of different emotions – disappointed, sad, upset, mad… But in the middle of all this, I am also feeling extremely thankful.
- Thankful I got to experience a new country and culture
- Thankful I got to live in beautiful San Francisco for 3 years
- Thankful for my Coaches for offering me a full scholarship to study and play basketball
- Thankful for new friends, from places all around the world
- Thankful for having the opportunity to learn from experienced professors
- Thankful for my family, for always being supportive of me and my decisions (even when I decide to move across the Atlantic Ocean…)
The list goes on…
But yes, I was really looking forward to graduation. Looking forward to celebrating my achievements together with family and friends. And it sucks that I won’t be able to do that right now. However, I do feel a little bit better when I come across articles like this: “Natural Light hosts virtual college graduation on Facebook Live”. The article talks about how Anheuser-Busch beer brand Natural Light recently announced that they will host a virtual college commencement ceremony on Facebook Live to celebrate graduates around the world.

The event will take place on May 14 at 7 pm ET through Natural Light’s Facebook page and is hosted by actress and activist Amanda Cerny. Cerny will be accompanied by guest speakers like Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and sports commentator Stephen A. Smith. I think this is a smart move from Natural Light, they are using the current pandemic situation both as a way to connect to their audience and as a way to increase their brand awareness. The article states “By providing this experience to young consumers during a difficult time, the brand could build good will and position itself in a positive light to help it nurture a loyal following of beer drinkers in the future”.
The author, Dianna Christie, further explains how this is not the first time Natural Light has been running campaigns targeted towards college students. In January, they offered free beer to anyone who turned 21 by encouraging their consumers to share photos on social media when they were drinking the beer on their 21st birthday. It seems to me that Natural Light has found their target audience, as well as an effective way to engage with them.
