In an article called “Twitter Shares Some Simple Tweet Copy Tips to Improve Campaign Performance,” the writer Andrew Hutchinson speaks to Twitter’s newly launched program called “Good Copy, Bad Copy.” In the article, there is a short video of Twitter creative lead Joe Waddington where he goes through a set of simple, actionable tweet tips to help improve tweet presentation and performance. I found this article super helpful and interesting because it helped me realize it can be really simple to improve your tweets, you just need to know how (and I will let you know!). Find the whole article including Waddington’s video here: https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/twitter-shares-some-simple-tweet-copy-tips-to-improve-campaign-performance/572849/

The first advice Waddington gives is to eliminate all caps. He means that it can often come across as aggressive and may reduce the effectiveness of your tweet. Secondly, he states how research have found that the clickthrough rate on tweets with percentages is higher than tweets with dollar amounts. So for example, it is more effective to have your copy say “10% off on all sunglasses” rather than “$10 off on all sunglasses”. Third, do not overuse hashtags. Previous research has shown how one or maximum two hashtags/tweet creates the most engagement. However, Waddington suggested in his example to remove the hashtags completely. Depending on your campaign goals, you can decide whether hashtags is needed or not, just remember more is not merrier in this case. Finally, enable website cards on your website. With this feature on, Twitter will be able to pull in summary and image info from your website and create a more professional looking tweet.
If you are looking to increase your Twitter engagement, I would definitely recommend you to take 2 minutes of your time to watch Waddington’s video (Twitter link: https://twitter.com/TwitterBusiness/status/1232001693740457987). He shows an example of “Bad Copy” and uses these tips to create “Good Copy”. It is a couple of really simple adjustments which can help your business become more successful, try it out!
